Placerville is a city in El Dorado County, California, centrally located in the Sierra Nevada foothills between the Sacramento Valley and Lake Tahoe basin, Placerville is a popular locale situated just off Highways 50 & 49. Placerville is approximately 1 hour from Lake Tahoe.

Placerville has many old buildings from the Gold Rush days. Historic Main Street has many historical markers, including many spots of certain events or persons of importance during the Gold Rush time period. Placerville was also on the line of the famous Pony Express, a short-lived mail carrier service that connected California to the Midwest and East (from Sacramento, California to St. Joseph, Missouri). Placerville is now registered as California Historical Landmark #701.

The region east of Placerville, popularly known as Apple Hill and Pleasant Valley, is becoming a center for wine production. The largest wineries in the area are Boeger, Lava Cap and Madrona, but most of the 30 plus wineries surrounding Placerville are family owned and smaller in wine grape and wine production. The region is renowned for making vibrantly flavorful, distinctly delicious wines, grown in the dramatic elevations of the Sierra Nevada.

The gated community of Greenstone is a small, gated community situated between Placerville and Shingle Springs. It’s comprised of 347 parcels dispersed over 2,500 acres, 260 of which are designated open space. The Greenstone neighborhood features a community horse-riding arena, 11 miles of riding/hiking trails, and three lakes. The Greenstone Barn holds community events and is also available for private party use. Downtown Sacramento is just 35 miles away and the shores and slopes of Lake Tahoe are just a convenient 90-minute drive.
